Last Playoff Appearance...first appearance in franchise history
All-Pro-FB Bob Westfall, RG Bill Radovich

The Lions are in the postseason for the first time, thanks to a 5-game winning streak in midseason. Detroit was able to win a few close games which helped them edge out the Packers for the last seed. The Lions were outgained and nearly outscored by their opponents in 1945.

Playoff Record-2-0, 1944 NFL Champions
All-Pro-RT Al Wistert, RB Steve Van Buren

Philadelphia had the best point differential in the league, as they attempt to go back-to-back. The Eagles had a 5-game winning streak of their own, using a stout run defense to control the clock and grind down their opponents. Steve Van Buren scored 18 touchdowns in his first full season as the feature back.

#2 seed-Washington Redskins (8-2)
Last Playoff Appearance...1943, NFL Champions
Playoff Record-4-0, 2-time NFL Champions (1942, 1943)

2011 NCAA National Championship-Alabama-38, Stanford-22

Tuscaloosa, AL-Alabama got an MVP performance from QB A.J. McCarron, who completed 22 of 26 passes for 367 yards and 3 TD, on their way to another national title, 38-22. Alabama struggled more in this game than in any other postseasons game, as Stanford's defense did an excellent job of keeping the Alabama running game in check. Trent Richardson was limited to 83 yards, although his 2 fourth quarter touchdowns helped put the Cardinal away. Where Stanford failed was in trying to stop McCarron, who spread the ball to 7 different receivers, each of which had at least 3 catches.

Stanford RB Stepfan Taylor had enjoyed an excellent postseason, but Alabama's defense did a great job of limiting him, holding Taylor 30 yards on 20 carries. Andrew Luck was able to throw for 347 yards to help keep Stanford in the game, but Alabama was able to secure their second national title in 3 years.

2011 NCAA Quarterfinal-Wisconsin-29, South Carolina-17

Columbia, SC-Wisconsin RB James White spent most of 2011 overshadowed by his superstar backfield mate, Heisman finalist Montee Ball, but in this one he was the star, running for 109 yards and scoring twice in the Badgers 29-17 victory over South Carolina. White scored on a 2-yard run to give Wisconsin a 14-3 first quarter lead, then added a 16-yard TD catch in the third quarter that put the Badgers up by 16. Russell Wilson was once again efficient for Wisconsin, completing 16 of 22 with 2 TD.

South Carolina got 97 yards on the ground from Marcus Lattimore, but struggled to play from behind all afternoon. The (13-2) Badgers advance to the NCAA Semifinals with the victory.

2011 NCAA First Round Playoff-Oklahoma-66, Oklahoma State-63

Stillwater, OK-When I first played this game, I thought the result was so ridiculous that it seemed too implausible. Then, the bowl season happened, and this game seems quite appropriate. Oklahoma battled back from a 35-7 deficit in the second quarter and overcame 5 Landry Jones interceptions and 649 yards of offense from the Cowboys in posting a wild 66-63 road win in the postseason. The Sooners rolled up 699 yards of their own, scoring 45 points in the second half. Jones threw for 459 yards and 6 TD, 180 of those yards to Ryan Broyles on 11 receptions. Roy Finch added 173 yards on the ground for the Sooners.

Brandon Weeden threw for 488 yards and 6 TD in a losing cause. Justin Blackmon had 11 receptions and 3 TD for Oklahoma State.
