1946 NFL Quarterfinal-Cleveland Browns-14, Chicago Cardinals-6

December 22, 1946

Weather-27 degrees, 10 mph SSW, light snow

Cleveland steamrolled the AAFC in 1946, but they struggled all afternoon against the Cardinals, making just enough plays to hold on for a 14-6 victory and a berth in the NFL semifinals. The Browns used an early Elmer Angsman fumble to drive a short field for a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Otto Graham finished the drive with a 14-yard TD pass to Dante Lavelli. Lavelli finished with 4 catches for 81 yards, including 2 big receptions on the Browns fourth quarter drive that put the game away, finishing with a Marion Motley 5-yard plunge.

Cleveland will host the Los Angeles Dons next Sunday for a shot at the NFL Championship.
