1950 NFL Semifinal-Philadelphia Eagles-3, Cleveland Browns-0

Marion Motley
December 24, 1950

Weather-24 degrees, 21 mph WNW, snow

The Eagles and Browns battled the elements as much as each other for a shot at the NFL Title, with Philadelphia winning the battle of attrition, 3-0. Game day in Cleveland brought a steady snowfall and winds gusting to 25 mph, but Eagles QB Tommy Thompson managed to control the ball with short, safe passes, completing 14 of 21 for 162 yards. The Browns managed 104 yards on the ground from Marion Motley, but were unable to get any points out of 3 separate trips to the red zone. Steve Van Buren led the Eagles ground attack with 71 yards. The only score of the game came after the Browns were pinned deep after the second half kickoff following a penalty. Cleveland couldn't manage a first down and had to punt to Cleveland, and the Browns took over from the Eagles 33. The Eagles could only manage one first down on the ensuing drive, but Cliff Patton banged home a 34-yard FG, and the score held up.

Philadelphia will travel to the Polo Grounds to battle the New York Giants for an NFL Championship on New Year's Eve.
