1956 NFL Quarterfinal-New York Giants-20, San Francisco 49ers-14 in OT

The Giants and 49ers engaged in an epic struggle at Yankee Stadium that ended after early 5 quarters with New York on top, 20-14. Alex Webster led the Giants attack by running for 128 yards on 24 carries. Frank Gifford added 95 yards rushing and 4 catches for 42 more. Hugh McElhenny led San Francisco by running for 169 yards on 21 carries, including a 54-yard TD that evened the score at 7 in the first half.

The Giants will travel to Tiger Stadium next Sunday to face the Detroit Lions for a berth in the NFL Championship Game.
