The San Francisco defense throttled Chicago all evening as the Niners reached the semifinals with a 20-3 victory. Niners QB Frankie Albert was efficient, completing 12 of 19 for 200 yards through the air, including a 15-yard TD pass to Paul Salata to give the 49ers an early 7-0 lead. Chicago struggled to get anything going offensively, managing just 63 yards on the ground for the game, and only 57 yards of offense after halftime.
Chicago only trailed 10-3 entering the fourth quarter, but Len Eshmont intercepted Johnny Lujack to give the Niners prime field position, which they quickly converted into a two-touchdown lead.
